On October 8th and 9th, 2019, the Workshop on Smart Connected Manufacturing took place in Piracicaba, Brazil, where German-Brazilian research projects in the field of production technology were presented and discussed. Since 2009, such projects have been jointly funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and its Brazilian counterpart CAPES. The previous programme "BRAGECRIM - Brazilian German Collaborative Research Initiative in Manufacturing Technology" was officially concluded at this 11th workshop. At the same time, a new German-Brazilian initiative was launched that deals with issues such as industry 4.0 and the digitalization of production. BIBA Institute Director Prof. Michael Freitag and his Brazilian colleague Prof. Enzo Frazzon from the Federal University of Santa Catarina were named coordinators of this new research initiative by the workshop participants.

During the workshop, current and planned projects from both funding programs were presented and discussed, including the new BIBA project "MetaMaintain", which will start in January 2020. The aim of the project is to develop a meta-learning system for the selection of suitable prediction methods for predictive maintenance based on the current state of a digital production system. Project partners are Prof. Michael Freitag, Prof. Enzo Frazzon and Prof. Carlos E. Pereira from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Furthermore, the research results of the BIBA project AdaptiveSBO were presented. The aim of this project is the development of an adaptive simulation-based optimization method for the planning and control of dynamic production systems. This BRAGECRIM project is a cooperation between BIBA and the Federal University of Santa Catarina and has been running since April 2016. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator
